a weekend in wimberley, tx

There are a lot of really beautiful places in Texas, and there are so many on my bucket list. One that was not (that now I realize should have been) - Wimberley. Wimberley is a little over an hour drive from where I live in North Austin and it was well worth it. Tucked away in the hill country, here’s where we ate, slept, and shopped in Wimberley this past weekend:

Lodging - Onera

Onera is located in the hills just outside of downtown Wimberley - like 5 minutes outside of town, but you feel like you are secluded and it is very quiet and private. The resort takes up a good amount of acreage, and you can tell it is still a relatively new property (some visible construction, landscaping, etc.). The buildings are a short walk from the parking lot; we stayed in one of the Greenhouses. The view off the hillside was absolutely breathtaking. Inside the room was all the amenities we needed - coffee maker, fridge/freezer, hot plate, hot water kettle, microwave, shower, couch, bed, and plenty of charging stations and soft lighting. The patio had a wood gazebo cover and a small two-person hot tub on the edge.

Eats - Creek House

When I tell you that this place was so good we went twice in the course of a two-night stay…we went twice during a two night stay. We came here on night one just for a little snack - opted for an espresso martini and some truffle fries (is girl dinner still a thing?). Our service was so phenomenal, the views were to die for, and the food and drinks were so good, I didn’t even want to try a different place on the second night.

Night two consisted of the hummus plate, more espresso tinis (they make a good one), and a chicken strip dinner. Our food took a longer time than expected on night two, but it still came out hot, fresh, and delicious. My fiance and I have both worked in the restaurant industry so we definitely understand any kind of delay with food. Our server from the night before recognized us and asked how our day was in Wimberly, and let us know if we needed anything else while we were there that he was there for us - he even remembered our names. You go for the views and food, you come back for the service.

Eats - Meat & Drink

Meat & Drink is super conveniently located on the Main Street in downtown. It has lots of options for on the go food and many options for drinks. I had asked for an espresso martini, and the bartender came and told me she didn’t have all the ingredients so I opted for a dirty martini. I don’t like to diss on things but it was definitely not the best martini I had…in fact I gave it back to the bartender and got a white wine instead. I will say their taco salad was a pretty yummy treat for lunch. Meat & Drink is a good stop for a beer and snack in hand.

Eats - Wimberley Cafe

Think classic, small town diner. And make it Texan. I couldn’t even tell you what I ordered because I ate it so fast. The hash browns were delicious and they had a carafe of mimosas for I think $16? When we closed out the tab, the server brought us some to-go coffee cups and said “Be careful drinking & shopping” - which we were careful but we definitely went shopping.

Shopping - Shelter

Shelter describes themselves as a “kinetic living” store. Their energy is cozy, natural, handmade, ethnic, and natural. I immediately knew I was going to love the store the second I walked in. They had lounge chairs, beautiful accent furniture, and home goods for the entire house. Coffee table books, wall decorations, functional kitchen pieces, spiritual pieces (Milagros, good luck fish, prayer bells, etc.). Just great vibes. The people we met that work there were friendly, welcoming, and ready to give us recommendations for places to go, things to do, places to eat - in fact it was an employee at Shelter that recommended us to Creek House.

Shopping - Ceremony

I love a good plant store. We went to Ceremony for a quick stop on the first night in town, and we went back on the second day to do some serious shopping. I ended up getting a beautiful full pothos, string of hooks, and several other small items (a hat for my fiancé, a print for our gallery wall, a tiny string of pearls with a tiny terra cotta pot for it). Go here. Get some plants. They are well-taken care of, they are good for your health, they are good for your home.
